Vatsalyam-Rotaract Club Free Dental Camp Nov 14

A Comprehensive, free dental camp was held by ‘Vatsalyam’- a Chennai based Service Organisation and Rotaract Club of Vepery(RCV), the youth wing of Rotary Club of Madras at the MGR Nagar Corporation High School to commemorate the Children’s Day.

The camp was formally inaugurated by the Worshipful Mayor of Chennai Corporation, Mr.. Ma. Subramanian and Mr. Ravi Katari, President of Rotary Club of Madras, Dr. Sudhakar, Asst. Commissioner of Police, Ashok Nagar, Chennai and Dr. S Ramachandran, Principal Ragas Dental College Hospital.

Speaking at the event, the mayor lauded the service initiatives of ‘Vatsalyam’ & RCV who have been active in the area for nearly 15 years. Expressing satisfaction over their role in complementing education & healthcare endeavours of the Corporation, he assured them all support from Chennai Corporation to reach out to a large segment through synergy.

Mr. Ravi Katari noted that the project was aptly named ‘Healthy India’ as the well-being of a country is determined not by GDP but by HRI, Human Resources Index that deals with education, healthcare and such issues.

In a brief speech, the General Secretary of ‘Vatsalyam’, S. Balachandran outlined the organization’s projects specially designed and targeted at the students of Corporation and Government Schools. He had a special word of praise for the inspiring leadership of Mr. Natarjan, the Headmaster of the school and the dedication displayed the teachers in the overall development of the school.

The role relevance of synergy through networking between NGOs was emphasized by Mr. Gopal Bhattad, President Rotaract Club of Vepery.
Over 1,200 students were examined for dental disorders by a team of 10 dentists from Ragas Dental College Hospital, Uthhandy on ECR led by Dr. Madan Kumar. “What makes our camp unique is our well-structured follow-up mechanism; we have mobilized a fully equipped van to examine the patients. Students with serious complications and also those who need extraction or surgery have been advised to bring their parents for briefing. After shortlising such cases, we transport them to our hospital for free treatment and hospitalization, if needed”, said Dr. Madan Kumar.

Smt. Shoba Srikant, Project Director, ‘Vatsalyam’ compered the event and P Raman, Coordinator proposed the vote of Thanks.
